About the artist
Damilola Ajegbomogun is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist whose practice centers on figurative painting as a means of exploring human emotion, identity, and the complexity of inner life. Born in March 1993 in Ibadan and raised partly in Ogun State, he developed an early interest in art that led him to study Creative Arts at the University of Lagos, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ajegbomogun’s work is deeply rooted in the study of human psychology, with a strong emphasis on the theme of duality—the coexistence of opposing emotional and existential states within individuals. His paintings often depict figures caught between vulnerability and strength, silence and expression, or clarity and ambiguity. Through this lens, he presents identity not as fixed, but as layered and constantly evolving.
Working primarily with oil on canvas, his style is marked by expressive brushwork, subtle distortions, and a deliberate interplay of light and shadow. These elements heighten the emotional intensity of his subjects, allowing viewers to engage with both the visible and concealed aspects of each figure. His compositions invite personal interpretation, encouraging audiences to confront their own internal contradictions.
